Surati Sub-District Head All Over Indonesia, Stafsus President Apologizes

The President's Special Staff, Andi Taufan Garuda Putra, released clarification of his viral letter and apologies to the people of Indonesia. Andi clarified the official letter which he addressed directly to all subdistrict heads in Indonesia.

"I apologize for this and withdraw the letter," Andi said in his official clarification, Tuesday (4/14).

The letter numbered 003 / S-SKP-ATGP / IV / 2020 conveyed the collaboration between himself as the President's Special Staff, PT Amartha Mikro Fintek (Amartha), and the PDTT Village Ministry related to assisting village volunteers against Covid-19. In the letter, Andi said that he had received a commitment from Amartha to provide Covid-19 education assistance and data collection on the need for personal protective equipment (PPE) at the health center.

Uniquely, Andi is the founder and CEO of Amartha. This condition triggered the pros and cons on social media, namely fears of a conflict of interest between his duties as Special Staff to the President and CEO Amartha. In addition, citizens also regretted Andi's way of cutting the state administrative bureaucracy by sending a letter directly to the sub-district head.

"For that, I express my appreciation and gratitude to various parties who have provided input. Surely this will be an important lesson for me as a young person who wants to contribute to the country so that it follows the rules of the bureaucratic system," Andi said.

Andi added, the letter was actually a notification of support to the Lawan Covid-19 Desa program which was initiated by the Ministry of Villages, Disadvantaged Regions, and Transmigration. In the letter with the head of the 'Cabinet Secretary', the Amartha field team will carry out two tasks, namely providing education related to Covid-19 and data collection on the needs of public health centers. The scope of work is Java, Sulawesi and Sumatra.

"The support is purely on the basis of humanity and at the expense of Amartha and community donations, which will be accounted for transparently and accountably. The support provided is carried out without using the state budget, both the state budget and regional budget," he said.

However, because it was already viral and reaped controversy, Andi also withdrew the letter. Even so, Andi reiterated his commitment to keep moving to help the government in handling the spread of Covid-19.

"Once again, I thank you and apologize for the uproar and inconvenience that has arisen. Whatever happens, I continue to help the village in my capacity and limitations," he said.
