Don't Forget to Continue to Improve the Immune System when Physical Distancing at Home

The Pandemic COVID-19 is already worrying. Since it first appeared in late December 2019, the disease that emerged from the SARS-CoV-2 virus infection has continued to spread. As of Friday (03/04/2020), the total positive cases worldwide reached 1,016,399. A total of 213,133 recovered and 53,238 died. In Indonesia, as of Friday (02/03/2020), total positive patients were 1,986. A total of 134 were declared cured and 181 died. The Indonesian government itself has implemented a policy to suppress the spread of COVID-19.

These policies include large-scale social restrictions (PSBB), testing, contact tracking of patients, optimizing referral hospitals, turning Wisma Atlet Kemayoran into an emergency hospital, and disseminating information related to COVID-19. Even though it's worrying, we shouldn't panic. We can take preventative measures to avoid transmission of COVID-19 by knowing how the SARS-CoV-2 virus is transmitted and the symptoms of COVID-19. SARS-CoV-2 is transmitted through droplets or liquids when sneezing or coughing. That is, the virus is transmitted through close contact. Once it has entered the body, the virus will incubate for 2-14 days.

During that time, an infected person can transmit it, even though it has no symptoms (asymptomatic). The symptoms of COVID-19 are almost similar to seasonal flu, such as high fever above 38 degrees Celsius, dry cough, runny nose, headaches, body aches, and shortness of breath. If you have symptoms and have been in contact with a COVID-19 patient or have visited an endemic area, you should do a quarantine independently for 14 days. Always evaluate health during quarantine.

If the condition worsens, you can contact the COVID-19 hotline at number 119 ext 9. In addition, COVID-19 attacks the human body which has a weak immune system. Therefore, the immune system is one of the keys to fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. Well, based on an understanding of how viruses are transmitted and COVID-19 symptoms, we can also determine effective ways to prevent transmission. Following this, there are three preventive steps that can be taken.

1. Prevent contact We can do social and physical restrictions to avoid transmission. At present, the government has implemented a PSBB. Through this policy, we are asked to reduce activities outside the home. All activities such as worship, study and work are done at home. Social and physical restrictions can reduce transmission of COVID-19. The positive impact, the hospital is not over capacity with COVID-19 patients so that the handling of patients can be more effective and efficient.

2. Implement clean living habits Clean living habits can be done simply and easily. One of them by getting used to washing hands with soap and running water for 20 seconds. Handwashing habits effectively kill germs, bacteria, and viruses that stick to the hands so that it can minimize the transmission of disease. In addition to using soap, hand sanitizer can also be cleaned. Cleanliness of the living environment must also be maintained. With a clean place to live, the potential for various diseases is getting smaller.

3. Increase endurance Most patients with COVID-19 cases have no symptoms. Some showed mild symptoms, and a few showed serious symptoms, such as pneumonia. The difference in symptoms is influenced by the immune system of each individual. In addition, COVID-19 is easily transmitted to individuals with weak immune systems.

Therefore, the immune system needs to be strengthened by providing good nutrition and adequate rest and exercise. Endurance can also be improved by taking supplements. Especially for diseases related to the respiratory system such as COVID-19, supplements containing Echinacea, Elderberry, and zinc have been shown to be effective in preventing respiratory infections. Well, we can choose supplements that contain these three active ingredients to strengthen the immune during social distancing at home. One supplement that we can take is Starmuno. Starmuno contains Echinacea, Elderberry, zinc, and vitamin C. This supplement is available in the form of caplets for adults and grape flavored syrup for children.

Little information, Echinacea is an herbal plant that belongs to the daisy family. Initially, this plant only lived in the Americas, especially North America. These herbs began to be used as herbal medicines in America and Europe in the early 20th century.

Because, Echinacea can stimulate the body's immunity by increasing the activity of white blood cells. Echinacea began to be used as a natural treatment for colds and colds (common cold) in the 1980s. There are currently nine species of Echinacea in the world. However, only three types of Echinacea can be used as herbal medicines, namely Echinacea purpurea, Echinacea angustifolia, and Echinacea pallida.

Among these three types, Echinacea angustifolia is the most effective way to optimize endurance so as to prevent the transmission of influenza. Meanwhile, the extract from the roots of the plant Echinacea angustifolia is called Polinacea. The extraction process is standardized. Polynacea has also proven to be beneficial for health because it contains echinacoside and IDN5405, phytochemicals that can increase endurance. Natural substances in Echinacea and Polinacea can increase immunity because they can increase the activity of white blood cells.

Polynacea is proven effective in preventing colds and influenza. In addition, the extra root of Echinacea angustifolia can also optimize the body's immunity after influenza vaccination.
