Choose wisely! Ford 1.8 TDCI

The 1.8 L inline 4 cylinder turbo-diesel engine is overloading the multi plate clutch (4th video here: http://allaboutdieselz.blogspot.ro/2015/08/3d-animated-tutorial-videos-of-diesel.html). It's operation isn't as smooth as the bigger 2.0 or 2.2 L TDCI; the boost is building up too suddenly; you'll have to shift gears more often which will lead to the disproportionately high load of the engine; the springs protrude from the socket, damping material is wearing out between them and the starter motor is cut. The Delphi type fuel injecting system will inevitably go bust and the death of the high pressure pump will come sooner or later! The timing of the 1.8 TDCI is a combined chain-wet belt (running on oil) unit, so the replacement at 160000 km (99419 miles) is expensive (somewhere around 520 euro) + the multi plate clutch must be replaced at 300000 km (186411 miles)! This particular engine can be found in the earlier generation Ford Focus and Mondeo. Avoid it!
